Right! Leftists seem unable to think past step (1)!
That's why leftists are nearly always surprised when they "get what they want." Only to find out that it's not what they envisioned -- because they never looked into what comes next. They just *assumed* that it would be better.
Doing anything "for the sake of doing it" is never the right thing to do. Without *some* expectation as to the final outcome, "nothing" is often better "something."
YES, this is true of every leftist initiative you can conceive, from Obamacare to "tax the billionaires" to pushing EVs... always without considering the next step (or indeed, the cost of the first step!!).
The worst part about it, is that they rarely have to face any consequences.
Environmentalists and leftists are part of the mechanism by which the masses are to be manipulated, they get a free pass. They are also applauded based on their intentions, not their outcomes.
This fosters more of the same "just do it" type of mentality. We'll figure out the details later, right? Only later never comes...
As we say in IT: That's a feature, not a bug... LOL. If there were some agency or group capable of holding them to account (remember media "speaking truth to power"?), they wouldn't get away with a tenth of what they do. You can apply that to the micro level, as in San Francisco (and every Democrat-run city) all the way to the top on the macro level. When they get ANY pushback at all, on any level, they scream "Racism!" or "_____phobia!" or "Nazis!!" -- never any discussion about substance, because they don't WANT any discussion about substance. See also: Campaigning for office from the basement. There can be NO discussion regarding policies... see, because they think they are RIGHT, always, and thus questioning them is almost a venal sin. It's religious without the God.
To me it's like taking someone out to eat. You try to decide where to go, and then you might settle on the "new place." The place that nobody has eaten at.
While that mentality is fine, for determining what's for dinner -- it's not well suited for determining public policy that's going to effect thousands, or millions of people.
You can't just "try it out" when it's a huge economic or public issue. Like banning natural gas stoves, or banning diesel engines. All of these snap judgements/dictates -- when there is no alternative. There's not enough power in places where they want to ban natural gas, or diesel engines. But, we'll figure that out later.
Meanwhile, the people enacting all of these policies are not effected by them. They are in a different class. They will make sure that the law excludes residences over a certain square footage, or a truck that's made to a specific specification, excluding nearly all existing technologies. They do this to alienate the majority of the population -- on purpose.
Some people are starting to realize this, and that's why places like California and New York are losing so many people. They know that these things won't work, and that they aren't supposed to work. They've had enough.
Leftists NEVER consider the second-order outcomes for the feel-good decisions they make.

Exactly. Like the "new place" with no prices on the menu... and the rationale is, "If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it." LOL.
We ship coal from Washington state to China, and they ship turbine blades back to Oregon. Brilliant
